LGR - a popular station
London Greek Radio can consider itself to be in a privileged position as regards to the high proportion of its listeners among the Greek speaking community.

This is confirmed by some key figures reached through a survey conducted by the public relations firm Hallet Arendt in conjunction with the University of North London.

Thus, 89% of those asked have listened to LGR and this figure rises to 96% of those aged 35 and over. About 54% listen to it on a regular basis. Listening is particularly high among those aged 55 and over.

Anyone who is familiar with the Greek speaking community in London, will verify its high degree of interest in developments in both Cyprus and Greece as well as of its fidelity to Greek culture and national heritage. London Greek Radio is the best means of information on both those aspects and generally keeping in touch with events in the Greek world. The great popularity of Greek music is an additional reason for listening to LGR especially with the younger generations. The music factor also explains the increasing number of people among the wider population in North London listening to LGR

Programming

LGR is a music biased station with a strong speech element. Musical programmes are of a big variety to satisfy as far as possible all tastes and all age groups.

A typical 24 hour schedule will include nine zones:

Zone D (Good morning London) starts with morning prayer and message for the day by the Archbishop followed by a news bulletin, news reports from Cyprus and Greece, comment and analysis on developments in Britain and on an international level, on economic topics and sport. Review of the Greek Cypriot, Turkish Cypriot the Greek and the British press follow. News bulletins in Greek for the rest of the day are at:

• 09.00, 10.00 13.00 (live from Cyprus),
• 11.50 (live from Greece)
• 16.03, 18.20 (live from Cyprus)
• 21.15 (live from Cyprus)
• 22.00 (live from Greece).

Ο Ελληνικός Ραδιοφωνικός Σταθμός Λονδίνου (LGR) είναι ο μοναδικός Ελληνικός Ραδιοφωνικός Σταθμός που υφίσταται και λειτουργεί στο Λονδίνο. Καλύπτει την ευρύτερη περιφέρεια της Αγγλικής πρωτεύουσας, στην οποία υπάρχουν γύρω στις 300 χιλιάδες Έλληνες, καταγόμενοι από την Κύπρο και την Ελλάδα.

Ο LGR αποτελεί κατά γενική ομολογία το μόνο αποτελεσματικό μαζικό μέσο επικοινωνίας της Ομογένειας. Σύμφωνα με έρευνα που πραγματοποίησε το Πανεπιστήμιο Βορείου Λονδίνου τον Οκτώβριο 2001, το 95% των συμπατριωτών μας είναι ακροατές του LGR. Επίσης, ο σταθμός μας ακούγεται και από αρκετούς Άγγλους και μέλη άλλων εθνικών μειονοτήτων.
